Some Serious Coloring By Eugene Andolsek

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

For fifty years Eugene Andolsek had a secret life creating drawings with vibrant colors and linear complexity in his free time. Working at his kitchen table on graph paper with a compass and straight edge he laid out black lines and geometries filling in spaces with colored inks mixed with eye droppers to achieve dazzling compositions. The pictures have elaborate layered patterns that can be kaleidoscopic with the radiance of stained glass and the complexity of oriental carpets and molecular structures. - American Primitive Gallery

Surrealist Drawings by Reality-must-die

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

I have been working on a few designs heavily inspired by the Surrealism, because of that I was looking for some references and visual artists that are influenced by this style as well. Then I stumbled upon Reality-must-die at DeviantArt. I couldn't get much information about him, I know he is from Germany, but I was totally mesmerized by his surrealistic drawings that I had to feature him here on Abduzeedo.

For more information about Reality-must-die, visit his DeviantArt Profile or his website at http://www.realitymustdie.npage.de (it's in German). but now, check out some of his amazing works.

Inside the Studio of Jet Black Tribal Ink

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

Jet Black Tribal Ink is a four man design boutique and advertising agency located in South Africa. The works that come out of this studio are totally awesome and as they say: "is a collective consciousness of four uniquely talented creatives".

<!--break-->

The Challenge

The challenge was the fact that there was only 28m2 of office space to fit four creatives, desks and storage - and a budget of only R100 000 (€8 800) for the entire project, from dry-walling and electrical, to furniture and floor treatments. The budget and space constraints created a unique opportunity for custom-fitting the shop. From concept to designing to drafting the plans to construction, all the elements would need to be handmade to save on costs and to use the available space to its full potential.

Jo Rin Hun, Modern and Tradition in Korea

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

Some villages in Korea are in the process of modernization. This house shows the power of architecture in confronting modern with tradition, the shapes and materials in this construction shows that the strong culture position was destroyed.

<!--break-->

The project from IROJE KHM Architects, built in Seoul, was an efective proof of cost management, using cheap materials as concrete and choosing for simplicity during the construction process. The house is made of metallic translucence plaques and glass, to soften the light, the wind and even the sounds from the street, creating a calm and special place.

And you can also see all the project concept, idea and the traditional korean contrapoint about the modernization of architecture in a great text in their website: IROJE KHM Architects.

I expect Jo Rin Hun, un-architectural architecture, to be a 'light house of city' that always lightens the neighborhood and to be a place where record and preserve the historic character of the site. (IROJE KHM)

The city and architecture are endowed with strong mutual response and finally this mass become to carry the un-architectural property of matter of transparence introversively, translucence extrorsely. (IROJE KHM)

What Color Is Your Mood?

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

According to new research 'feeling blue' may be more of an accurate measure of one's emotions than just what your mood ring says.

Researchers writing in the open access journal BMC Medical Research Methodology describe the development of a color chart, The Manchester Color Wheel, which can be used to study people's preferred pigment in relation to their state of mind. Those who described themselves as happy picked shades of yellow where as those feeling anxious or depressed chose shades of grey or dark blue.

Peter Whorwell, Professor of Medicine and Gastroenterology at University Hospital South Manchester, worked with a team of researchers from the University of Manchester, UK, to create an instrument that would allow people a choice of colors in response to questions. He said, "Colors are frequently used to describe emotions, such as being 'green with envy' or 'in the blues'. Although there is a large, often anecdotal, literature on color preferences and the relationship of color to mood and emotion, there has been relatively little serious research on the subject". » More: What Color Is Your Mood?
