Law Abiding Citizen
Thursday, February 18th, 2010
You have to give Gerard Butler some credit for attempting to add some versatility to his resume by taking a romantic comedy here and there, but it's nice to see him back in Law Abiding Citizen doing what he does best: being a total badass. That's not to say that this is by any means a great film, but some well placed 'splosions, fancy gadgets, and a bit of psychological warfare make Law Abiding Citizen an enjoyable two hours for anyone without an over-active cringe reflex.

The Bourne Ultimatum [Blu-ray]
Thursday, February 18th, 2010
Damon is as impressive as ever, continuing to prove himself as a better-than-the-average action hero, particularly after starting his career as Will Hunting. Unlike, for instance, Vin Diesel or Channing Tatum, Damon balances credible acting skills and talent with hard work and training that ensures Bourne's every move is believable. The character doesnt have much emotional range (he doesnt smile once in this film), but that only makes the performance more impressive, demonstrating that Bourne has complete control over his emotions, taking down adversaries with a sense of ataraxia and stoicism.

Z Rock

This is not Spinal Tap. Not Niggaz With Hats, The Rutles, or CB4. For the most part, those were established comedians bringing laughs to the music world, cloaked in realism. Z Rock is a show that drives music into unforeseen, raunchy, awesome comedy.

The Ghost Writer

while Roman Polanski's film occasionally plays well with dramatic tension and right well by its skilled lead actors, more often it feels limp and overblown, a take on modern political intrigue from a guy who's been in exile for decades. He clearly knows how it all ought to work, but doesn't quite have the right language any more.
